Special Education Lead

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Special Education Lead to join our dedicated team in a full-time permanent position at Smile Education. Based in the area, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) and ensuring their safeguarding and welfare.
About the Role:
- Lead and manage the school's SEN provision, ensuring that students with SEN receive appropriate support and interventions.
- Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) for students with additional needs.
- Conduct assessments to identify SEN and monitor the progress of students, ensuring they achieve their potential.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on best practices for supporting students with SEN.
- Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure holistic support for students with SEN.
Safeguarding Responsibilities:
- Oversee the school's safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with current legislation and best practice.
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), supporting the identification and management of safeguarding concerns.
- Provide advice and support to staff on safeguarding matters, including child protection, early help, and the appropriate response to disclosures.
- Manage and track referrals to external agencies and ensure timely follow-up and actions.
- Conduct safeguarding audits and contribute to the development and review of the school's safeguarding policies.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Work closely with senior leadership and pastoral teams to create a supportive and inclusive school environment.
- Contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives, ensuring that SEN and safeguarding remain key priorities.
- Lead and participate in multi-agency meetings to support the needs of students with complex and/or safeguarding concerns.
- Foster a culture of safeguarding awareness and inclusivity throughout the school community.
