Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Eating Disorders team of our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Directorate.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide therapeutic packages of care to children and young people suffering from Eating Disorders and their families, within the defined areas.
  • Carry out comprehensive assessments and interventions in this population supported by the team within tier 2/3 CAMHS, and hold their own caseload.
  • Liaise closely with other agencies and professionals, and provide consultation when required.
  • Provide teaching and training to others.
  • Supervise junior staff where appropriate.

Job Responsibilities

As an Eating Disorders Specialist Nurse, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing patient-centred care of a complex nature in a variety of settings.
  • Working with the specialist nurse to provide ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, ensuring the maintenance of clinical records.
  • Developing plans of action in conjunction with the specialist nurse.
  • Working with the specialist nurse in the management of a caseload, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team, patient, family, and any other agencies.
  • Attending and contributing to core groups, review meetings, child protection meetings, and any other clinical forums requiring key-worker involvement.
  • Providing accurate reports for such meetings, ensuring patient involvement where required.
  • Working with patients and families who are potentially hostile.
  • Participating in teaching programmes for nursing students and other members of staff when required.
  • Respecting the rules of confidentiality as per policy.
  • Monitoring and reporting areas of concern.
  • Working within current clinical guidelines and legislation to deliver quality, evidence-based care.
Person Specification

We are looking for someone with:

  • A good understanding of Child and Adolescent Mental Health issues.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to local systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to organisational procedures.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Training appropriate to post.
  • Post Registration Qualification in Child & Adolescent Mental Health.
  • Child Protection, child development, working with families.

Essential experience includes:

  • Experience in assessment and clinical interventions.
  • Working within a team.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Experience of working with children and/or young people with mental health problems.
  • Experience of facilitating group work.
  • Community work or 1-1 work with patients.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with children, young people, and adults.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and carry out specific tasks as allocated.
