Canterbury, Kent, United Kingdom NELFT North East London Foundation Trust Full time

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner. This is an exciting opportunity to work with children and young people in educational settings, providing low-intensity interventions based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and guided self-help.

As a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner, you will work under clinical supervision as part of a dynamic NHS mental health team. You will develop knowledge and practice skills to employ a range of evidence-based interventions for mental health difficulties. This will be delivered via direct individual and group support for children, young people, and their families, in line with NHS and University expectations.

The role will involve working with a variety of different age groups as well as families across the diverse population of Kent and Medway. You will be required to travel between school sites/clinical sites as well as to KCL in order to undertake the university course and practical elements of the job role. Business travel will be reimbursed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people in educational settings with mild to moderate mental health problems
  • Helping children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services
  • Supporting and facilitating staff in educational settings to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing
  • Working with and within educational environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services

Person Specification

We are looking for an individual with a degree qualification and experience of working with children. Knowledge of the educational system in England and children and young people gained through academic study in child development, child wellbeing, or mental health is essential. A commitment to the training course and working within children's mental health services is also required.

What We Offer

We offer a comprehensive induction program, including mandatory training, systems training, and the allocation of equipment. You will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health, and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive work environment. As a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner, you will be part of a dynamic team that is passionate about improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including a starting salary of the NHS AfC Band 5 scale with NELFT.
