Occupational Therapy Assistant
Whittington Health NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our Islington Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team. As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the rehabilitation of adults with neurological and complex physical disabilities.
Under the supervision of senior therapists, you will assist in delivering and providing interventions that support clients with physical, cognitive, and psychological needs. This will involve implementing and evaluating interventions, such as supporting individuals with stroke or neurological conditions to manage daily living, mobility, and communication activities.
Main Duties of the Job
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:
- Working under the direction of qualified therapists to carry out routine and non-routine managed therapeutic treatment and activities to increase independence and confidence of clients.
- Assisting therapists with assessments, treatments, and discharges.
- Working in a sensitive and enabling way, taking account of the service's commitment to diversity and equality.
- Observing client progress against treatment aims, goal plans within the team, and reporting and discussing these observations with the therapist responsible for the treatment.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Clinical
- Working with clients with acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury, degenerative diseases, occasional challenging behavior, and other neurological conditions to provide community neurological rehabilitation programs.
- Independently completing assessments of clients as delegated by senior therapists, such as activity of daily living assessments, falls assessments, and mobility assessments.
- Working effectively as a member of the team to assist in planning and implementing care plans and treatment programs under the guidance of qualified professionals.
- Forming professional relationships with clients and communicating with them in a way that respects their views, autonomy, and culture.
Education and Supervision Responsibilities
- Attending monthly supervision sessions with senior occupational therapists.
- Participating in performance management initiatives, including appraisal, identification of training needs, and development of a personal development plan.
- Keeping a record of learning from training and development activities and developing evidence of competence within the job.
Administrative
- Keeping up-to-date registers of contact with clients and accurate information about your activity in accordance with Trust and service requirements.
- Ensuring confidentiality of client information is maintained and clinical records are stored appropriately as directed by the Team leader.
