About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Inherited Metabolic Diseases Specialist to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant in Paediatric Metabolic Medicine, you will play a key role in delivering safe and sustainable care to paediatric patients across the Southwest.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and increase consultant-level delivery of tertiary services to metabolic inpatients and outpatients in Bristol and across the South West of England.
  • Support the development of tertiary services as part of a managed clinical network for the South West of England.
  • Ensure that the service conforms to the highest clinical standards in the investigation, diagnosis, and management of children with IMD.
  • Support the development of effective two-way communication between specialist centre and local hospitals, other professionals, patients, and their families.
  • Support the provision and development of metabolic outreach clinics in secondary care centres across the South West.
  • Work closely with specialist clinical biochemistry.
  • Provide clinical support for the newborn screening programme.
  • Support transitional care service provision for patients with IMD.
  • Support the provision of 24/7 specialist consultant cover across the South West.
  • Liaise closely with patient support groups.
  • Maintain their general metabolic skills.
  • Be a member of the British Inherited Metabolic Disorders Group and the Society for Inborn Errors of Metabolism.

Requirements
  • MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • On the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview.
  • Note: CESR applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • National Grid Post in metabolic Disorders Higher degree, e.g. MSc, MD, PhD in Paediatrics.
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Paediatric IMD.
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a wide range of problems within Paediatric IMD.
  • Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training.
  • Paediatric Basic Life Support training.
