About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced pharmacist to join our team as a Specialist Surgical Pharmacist. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care and advancing the field of pharmacy practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement clinical pharmacy services in line with the Trust's strategic direction.
  • Provide a clinical pharmacy service to all surgery wards, including Acute Admissions, Digestive Disease Unit, Intensive Care, Orthopaedic, and General Surgery, as well as the Pre-op Clinic.
  • Liaise with other pharmacists in the surgical team to ensure seamless care of patients transferred to/from the surgical wards.
  • Assist the lead clinical pharmacists and business managers in monitoring medicines expenditure and delivering on cost improvement programs.
  • Initiate, undertake, and supervise relevant practice research, publishing results locally and nationally.
Medicines Safety
  • Work with Pharmacy and ward-based staff to investigate incidents and near misses, and implement and share lessons learned/new ways of working as a result.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of service and safety, providing and enforcing guidelines, policies, and procedures in line with the Trust's Medicines Code.
Education, Training, and Leadership
  • Continuously develop own knowledge and skills to stay abreast of new guidelines and developments in the given area.
  • Mentor, coach, and train summer students, pre-registration students, junior pharmacists, and apprentices.
  • Take responsibility for department rotas, summer students, locum induction, guideline production, and change management as required.
  • Teach junior medical and nursing staff.
  • Undertake the role of preregistration tutor and/or diploma tutor.
