As our new Youth Sailing Program Manager, you will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young sailors in the Pacific Northwest. Gig Harbor Junior Sailing (GHJS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing inclusive sailing programs that foster youth development.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic leader to oversee our exceptional sailing programs and help us achieve long-term organizational goals. GHJS is supported by year-round and seasonal staff, a passionate and responsive Board of Directors, dedicated volunteers, and amazing race team sailors and their families.

This is a full-time, exempt position with frequent local travel and occasional travel within the region. Other travel within the US may be required.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Manage the overall administration of GHJS, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Program Development: Plan and develop new sailing programs, events, and activities to meet the growing demand for youth sailing programs in the area.
  • Instruction and Coaching Oversight: Supervise instructors and coaches, ensuring high-quality instruction and coaching for our youth sailors.
  • Administration and Risk Management: Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and mitigate risks.
  • Personnel Management: Hire, train, and manage staff, including seasonal employees and contractors.
  • Fleet and Facility Oversight: Ensure the maintenance and upkeep of our fleet and facilities, including boats, equipment, and waterfront areas.
  • Nonprofit Business Management: Assist with budget development, purchasing, payroll, communications, grant writing, and other essential business functions.
  • Representation: Represent GHJS to external individuals and organizations, fostering partnerships and collaborations to support our mission.
Requirements:
  • Leadership Experience: Proven leadership experience in managing youth sailing programs or similar organizations.
  • Sailing Expertise: Extensive knowledge of sailing, including small boat operation and maintenance, sailing instruction, dinghy racing, and water safety.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, parents, and community members.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with software systems related to budgeting, accounting, program registration, employee records, and equipment tracking.
  • Certifications and Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, US Sailing Level 1 certification, and First Aid/CPR certifications.

The successful candidate will have a strong passion for youth development and sailing, excellent leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. We offer a competitive salary range of $71,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience, and a comprehensive benefits package, including a signing bonus up to $6,000.
