Job Title: Professional Nurse Advocate Lead

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Nurse Advocate Lead to join our team at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the roll out of the Professional Nurse Advocate Model within the Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals Group.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide expert knowledge in nursing practice to support the implementation and monitoring of practice, ensuring that there are robust clinical governance assurance systems in place to monitor the delivery of supervision.
  2. Support Registered nurses in sharing good practice learnt through risk management processes to reduce the incidence of harm and litigation cases.
  3. Chair the community of practice and events for all PNAs across the trust.
  4. Be involved in continuous monitoring and maintaining quality standards of clinical practice through clinical audit, working clinically with nurses for those who require additional support and development.
  5. Act as a role model at all times and promote a high standard of safe and effective care based on best evidence.
  6. Meet with nurses in their designated area and/or caseload on either an appointment or ad hoc basis.
  7. Use effective communication strategies and influencing skills to achieve desired outcomes and make appropriate referrals for advocacy, mediation or arbitration.
  8. Communicate and collaborate effectively with clinical educators in the Trust to provide high quality, patient centred, research-based education.
  9. Lead on the utilisation of agreed metrics to demonstrate ongoing added value of the role of Professional Nurse Advocate and monitoring outcomes for staff and patients.
  10. Identify, collate, analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to inform the development of reports regarding the process, impact and outcome of the PNA role and the A-EQUIP model.
  11. Lead the delivery of restorative clinical supervision to staff when requested and need is identified.
  12. Demonstrate understanding of the role of the Professional Nurse Advocate within the context of national governance policies and procedures.
  13. Ensure that they maintain their own knowledge and clinical skills by all appropriate means.
  14. Mentor and Supervise Trainee PNAs to complete required competency.
  15. Support and attend external meetings on PNA programme representing the Trust.
  16. Lead the development of policies and procedures, working with relevant internal and external stakeholders for developing and modernising clinical practice.
  17. Promote the PNA training amongst registered Nurses to achieve the ambition of 1 x qualified PNA to every 20 Registered Nurses by 2025.
  18. Triage expressions of interest for the PNA course trust wide.
  19. Produce ongoing evaluation of the impact of the PNA programme, communicating outcomes trust wide.
