The Vessel Superintendent is a key member of the Oceaneering team, responsible for overseeing the construction of sub-sea oil and gas infrastructure, dams, pipelines, and other construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of project management principles, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities- Interface with clients, clients' third-party representatives, marine personnel, and Oceaneering divisions to ensure successful project execution.
- Study project specifications to plan and coordinate installation or maintenance activities, considering start and completion times, staffing requirements, and other project parameters.
- Assist project managers in developing procedures and tools for installation or maintenance projects.
- Inform the Operations Manager of vessel and Oceaneering dock area conditions related to project activities.
- Act as the primary Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) agent on the vessel for Oceaneering activities, serving as a liaison between Oceaneering and the Marine Division.
- Direct and supervise riggers and third-party laborers.
- Collaborate with supervisory personnel and subcontractors to plan and execute work procedures, interpret specifications, and coordinate project phases and mobilizations.
- Resolve complaints and grievances within the workforce through collaboration with supervisory personnel and labor representatives.
- Work with supervisory and engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve installation and mobilization problems and improve methods.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure that workmanship meets specifications and project schedules are adhered to.
- Prepare or review reports on project progress, materials used, and costs, and adjust work schedules as indicated by reports.
- Direct workers involved in major maintenance or reconditioning projects for existing installations.
The Vessel Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that safety policies and procedures are understood and adhered to, creating a safe working environment. This includes:
- Ensuring compliance with Oceaneering's Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Systems.
- Performing tasks with due diligence regarding the Integrated Management Systems.
- Eliminating waste and suggesting environmentally friendly substances and practices.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5-10 years of experience in deepwater installations.
- Offshore survival training.
- Offshore medical certification.
- Valid passport.
- Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet applications.
- One-year certificate from a college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position is considered OFFSHORE WORK, characterized by:
- Working outdoors and indoors, day and night, and over/near water.
- Working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
- Frequent exposure to high humidity, noise above 85 decibels, and intense/glare lighting.
- Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
- Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
- Work surface is stable, height is elevated.
This position is considered HEAVY work, requiring:
- OCCASIONAL: lifting pounds, working in confined spaces, kneeling, jumping, running, working while lying on the stomach/back, crawling, and using repetitive movements of the arms and hands.
- FREQUENT: lifting 25-50 pounds, wearing PPE for head, hands, climbing stairs/ladders, standing, balancing, stooping, squatting, reaching, and lifting/carrying objects.
- CONSTANT: lifting 10-20 pounds, standing, walking, wearing PPE for body, vision, and hearing protection, and wearing steel/safety-toed shoes/boots.
