About Our Team

Our Adult Social Care Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service is a dynamic and supportive team that provides county-wide support to local authority adult social care teams. We are committed to delivering high-quality services that prioritize the well-being and safety of individuals with mental health needs.

Our Role

We are seeking a registered Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, or Mental Health Nurse to join our team as an Approved Mental Health Professional. As an AMHP, you will be responsible for carrying out a broad range of tasks and assessments within the scope of the Mental Health Act, including consideration under s13, the making of applications to detain people, and the use of Guardianship and Community Treatment Orders to support well-being in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out assessments and make decisions regarding the detention of individuals under the Mental Health Act
  • Work closely with local authority adult social care teams to provide support and guidance on complex practice issues
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary team working, safeguarding meetings, and joint visits with social care staff
  • Develop and maintain relationships with health colleagues in Devon Partnership Trust
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain approval as an AMHP

About You

We are looking for a motivated and experienced professional who is committed to delivering high-quality services that prioritize the well-being and safety of individuals with mental health needs. You will have a proven track record of working with people in mental health crises and a strong appreciation of the European Convention on Human Rights. You will also be committed to the principles of mental health legislation and have a strong focus on recovery principles.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, or Mental Health Nurse
  • Current AMHP approval or willingness to submit a portfolio for re-approval
  • At least 2 years post-qualifying experience for Trainee AMHP posts
