We are seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our team at Wales Medicines Strategy Group. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the financial accounting services within the Finance Department.
Job OverviewThe Senior Financial Accountant will have lead responsibility for developing and managing the financial accounting services, including technical accounting advice, financial governance, capital, finance systems, and financial services. You will provide robust support to the Deputy Director of Finance and have the lead role in relation to financial reporting and governance.
Main Duties of the Job- Lead on the annual statutory NHS and charitable funds accounts.
- Provide technical accounting advice.
- Deliver high-quality accounting services which achieve targets for timeliness, accuracy, and financial control, and deliver financial transaction services which achieve best value for money.
- Maintain the integrity of the financial systems within the Trust.
You will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely completion of monthly statutory returns, including reports on the Trust's compliance with statutory financial duties and targets. Additionally, you will lead the finance elements of the Annual Report and Annual Governance Statement.
Working for Our OrganisationThe Finance Department is split into Financial Management Team and Financial Accounting Team, reporting to the Deputy Director of Finance. The financial services, payroll, and procurement services are outsourced to a local Trust.

- Responsible for leading and managing the preparation of the Trust's and charitable funds statutory annual accounts.
- Ensure the accurate and timely completion of monthly statutory returns.
- Lead the finance elements of the Annual Report and Annual Governance Statement.
Financial Control Framework
- Maintain a robust financial control framework.
- Recommend and develop new policies and procedures where appropriate.
Other Responsibilities
- Represent, cover, support, or deputise for the Deputy Director of Finance or senior colleagues as required.
- Carry out other reasonable duties required.
Person Specification
- Expert knowledge of financial and accounting procedures, financial reporting standards, and financial aspects of relevant legislation.
- Evidence of continuing post-qualification development.
- Further relevant specialist CPD in technical skills and NHS finance.
- Experience of managing a wide range of internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to interpret complex financial concepts and apply in a practical setting.
Estimated Salary: £74,290 - £85,601 per annum.
