Senior NHS Financial Accountant

An exciting permanent position has arisen for a fully qualified technical accountant with experience in the NHS to join an esteemed East Midlands NHS trust as a Financial Accountant.

- Enhance day-to-day management of the Financial Accounting department, including the development of processes for producing monthly and quarterly financial returns and annual financial statements.
- Assist the Financial Accounting team in responding to internal and external audit reports, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Lead on all aspects of charitable fund accounting, providing expert guidance and support to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Support the Head of Financial Accounts in managing relationships with outsourced service providers, ensuring seamless integration and optimal outcomes.
- Evaluate and implement effective internal financial controls to support a robust system of financial governance, aligned with the trust's standing orders, standing financial instructions, and financial procedures and protocols.
- Contribute to the production of monthly finance accounts, ensuring deadlines are met and high-quality deliverables are achieved.
- Manage cash and agreement of balances procedures for annual accounts, guaranteeing accuracy and efficiency.
- Review working papers and ensure a clear audit trail of all workings, maintaining transparency and accountability.
- Ensure full review of control accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis, identifying and resolving issues promptly.
- Liaise with the trust's shared service for day-to-day management, fostering collaboration and coordination.
- Liaise with external agencies and professional advisors, including HM Treasury and VAT experts, to ensure informed decision-making.
- Oversee the production of weekly and annual cash flow forecasts, supporting business planning and strategic decision-making.
- Support completion of the cash flow plan for the trust, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Identify cash support requirements and present business cases to NHS England for cash drawdown, demonstrating expertise and professionalism.
- Review daily bank statements and cash management schedules, maintaining oversight and control.
- Reconcile cash flow management processes to the trust's statutory external financing limit, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Responsibly manage all cash and bank accounts of the trust, including maintenance of bank signatories and electronic banking access.
The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant with a background in technical accounting within the NHS. They will possess strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and a desire for continued professional development.
Candidates will be required to work on-site in the Nottinghamshire area and remotely, necessitating adaptability and flexibility.
The estimated salary range for this position is £60,000-£80,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
