About the Role
As a medical secretary, your duties will include answering telephone queries, allaying fears, and referring to Consultants as necessary. You will arrange new patient appointments, register them using an in-house database, and provide specific information regarding potential Hospital and Consultant fees. Your typing skills will be essential in creating clinic letters using digital or audio tape dictation from Consultants' clinics.
You will assist with preparation of future clinics, chasing results, ensuring that clinics are complete and ready for the next Consultant clinic day. You will maintain patient records securely, in line with the Data Protection Act, and produce medical reports where necessary for Medical Insurers to approve treatment.
Key Skills and Qualifications
Previous experience as a medical or legal secretary
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Able to type quickly and accurately (70 words per minute minimum)
Knowledge of medical terminology
Flexibility with regards to hours/days required to work
