Production Journalist

We are seeking an experienced and multi-skilled Production Journalist to join our broadcast and digital news team at ITV News Calendar.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated journalist with a strong knowledge of media law and compliance, excellent editorial judgement, and the ability to exercise accuracy in their writing.

As a Production Journalist, you will have superb organisation skills, with the ability to set up all the key elements of a story for television news. You will be able to cope well under pressure and meet frequent tight deadlines.

The role is based in our Leeds newsroom, where you will work on television and digital news production, from producing early, late, and weekend bulletins and planning stories, to creating online content that enhances our reputation and engages our digital audience.

You will also have outstanding written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to demonstrate good working relationships with colleagues and external contacts. You will have excellent editorial judgement and social media skills, with a thorough understanding of the Ofcom Code.

We are looking for someone who can think creatively, bring a different perspective to our coverage, and appreciate the importance of Diversity & Inclusion in determining output.

Key skills and qualifications include:

  • Strong knowledge of media law & compliance
  • Excellent editorial judgement and accuracy in writing
  • Good knowledge of ITV News Calendar and the stories and areas of interest for the many communities in the region
  • Able to generate, research, and develop original ideas for online and television
  • Strong journalistic curiosity, good command of language, accurate spelling & grammar, and an eye for detail
  • Ability to think creatively and bring a different perspective to our coverage
  • Appreciation and experience of how to create content for online to best effect across all platforms
  • Ability to work successfully and positively as part of a team, to deadlines, and focusing well under pressure
  • Understanding of the importance of Diversity & Inclusion in determining output
