We are seeking a visionary leader to join our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as the Head of School for the School of Social Sciences. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our institution and contribute to the development of our students, staff, and research community.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for leading the School of Social Sciences, which is a thriving academic community with a strong reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and knowledge exchange. The School has a diverse range of courses, including criminology, politics and international relations, psychology, and sociology, and is committed to advancing the University's strategic objectives in education, research and knowledge exchange, employability, and global engagement.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the School of Social Sciences, providing strategic direction and vision for the development of the School's academic programs, research, and knowledge exchange activities.
- Develop and implement plans to enhance the School's performance, including improving student outcomes, increasing research income, and expanding knowledge exchange partnerships.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including academic colleagues, students, alumni, and external partners.
- Manage the School's budget, ensuring effective resource allocation and financial management.
- Contribute to the development of the University's strategic plan, providing input and expertise on matters related to education, research, and knowledge exchange.
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leadership and management, with experience of leading academic teams and developing strategic plans. They will also have a deep understanding of the social sciences, including criminology, politics and international relations, psychology, and sociology, and be able to demonstrate a commitment to advancing the School's performance against the University's strategic objectives.
The term of office as Head of School is for a period of five years, at which time the position will be reviewed with the possibility of extension for a further two year fixed period. Following completion of the term of office, the postholder will revert to a substantive permanent post within the School.
