About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Histopathology team as a Support Practitioner. The successful candidate will provide technical support to our qualified staff in the provision of a specialist diagnostic service.

The role involves performing routine diagnostic testing procedures in the laboratory, prioritizing workload, and following established protocols and procedures. The successful candidate will also be responsible for handling potentially high-risk uncontained body tissues and fluids from patients.

Main Responsibilities
  • Perform routine diagnostic testing procedures in the laboratory, prioritizing workload and following established protocols and procedures.
  • Handle potentially high-risk uncontained body tissues and fluids from patients.
  • Assist qualified staff in the histopathology department with specimen dissection, digital imaging, and filing of tissue specimens.
  • Carry out routine automated staining techniques and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure accurate identification of specimens and correct entry of data into the computer system.

Requirements
  • A levels or equivalent in science subjects to include biology.
  • Previous technical experience in a UKAS pathology laboratory.
  • Experience of histopathology techniques and non-gynae cytology.
  • Practical experience of collating information for MDT.
