About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Buyer to join our Softlines department at My 1st Years. As an Assistant Buyer, you will play a key role in expanding our range by taking ownership of your own range and contributing to the department's strategy.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage critical path for the Softlines department, ensuring timely supplier approvals and lab dips.
  • Mentor and manage BAA, role modelling My 1st Years values and behaviours.
  • Source and negotiate prices for an own bought range, trading under supervision of Buyer.
  • Plan department with Buyer/Merchandiser, presenting at sign-off.
  • Contribute to department strategy, identifying risks and opportunities supported by data.
  • Oversee fitting and sealing of samples, supporting tech team with product information.
  • Manage internal documents and systems, handing over information to relevant teams.
  • Work with Photography to manage schedule and hand over new product samples.
  • Build excellent relationships with suppliers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global competitors, presenting findings to the team.
  • Present/deputise in Buyer's absence in meetings such as Monday Trade.
  • Partner with eCommerce team to optimise merchandising on-site.
  • Develop and maintain a sound understanding of the wider Business Strategy.
  • Actively seek to understand department and business KPIs.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-2 years experience at Assistant Buyer level, ideally within a baby/childrenswear setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-channel environment and perform effectively under pressure.
  • A passion for retail and a desire to work and develop within a buying role.
  • Good time management skills with the ability to plan, organise and prioritise tasks under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Critical Path management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the business.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Commercially-minded, focused and proactive.
