Director of Performance and Planning

We are seeking a highly experienced Planning expert to direct our established Planning practice, part of our 230-strong UK & Ireland Capital Project Delivery team. You will work on a hybrid basis from any of ERM's 16 UK offices, with a preference for Edinburgh, York, Bristol, or London.
As the Planning practice Director, you will lead the practice through innovative projects in decarbonisation (hydrogen, CCUS), renewable energy (solar, onshore and offshore wind, hydrogen and battery storage), and mining sectors. Our projects, such as Dolphyn Hydrogen and Equinor's H2H Saltend Blue Hydrogen project, are cutting-edge and offer opportunities to build profile in emerging industries.
You will work within various planning regimes, including NSIP/DCO, TCPA, s36 (Scotland), and DNS (Wales), to direct the Planning practice through a range of projects and deliverables. Our Planning practice collaborates with our EIA and Project Management practice to prepare EIAs and consenting applications, supported by our technical environmental specialists.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the growth of our sales pipeline through leveraging your network and technical excellence
- Establishing relationships with prospective clients
- Contributing to operational performance through personal revenue generation and minimising re-work and write-offs
- Providing leadership in communicating and enabling ERM's health and safety culture
- Supporting the career development of the practice around you
We are looking for a qualified Town Planner with extensive work experience in similar roles, a strong track record of securing successful TCPA and DCO outcomes, and Scottish planning and consenting experience. Proven business development and growth of sales, as well as strong team leadership experience, are also essential.
Essential skills and experience
- Town Planning degree qualification
- Licentiate/RTPI (or equivalent) qualified Planner
- Extensive work experience in similar roles
- Strong track record of securing successful TCPA and DCO outcomes
- Scottish planning and consenting experience
- Proven track record in successful business development and growth of sales
- Strong team leadership experience
- Committed to the career development and mentoring of your practice
