We have an exciting opportunity for a Chemical Operations Technician to join our team at Biffa Waste Services. As a Chemical Operations Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our chemical waste management processes.

Salary

The estimated salary for this position is £40,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.

About the Job:

This is a dynamic and fast-paced role that requires strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to health and safety. You will be responsible for assisting in the identification and preparation of waste for safe onward transport, handling small containers of chemicals, and packing them into larger containers to prevent damage during transport.

You will also assist in generating information to classify waste materials, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Paramount to this role is assessing and handling waste in an approved manner, guaranteeing Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance are met.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing technical assistance, waste packing, and collection services to customers.
  • Maintaining necessary documentation and inspecting waste for conformity and container integrity prior to movement.
  • Gathering and recording sufficient detail to ensure waste can be removed on the day to a suitable facility.
  • Transferring details to company systems to facilitate the acceptance of waste onto site and processing.
  • Creating load plans to aid drivers in segregating incompatible chemicals for transport.
  • Undertaking liquid pumping services from damaged or unsuitable containment into suitable containers to facilitate subsequent removal of waste from site to the customer's satisfaction.
Requirements:
  • HNC Chemistry qualification (minimum)
  • GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics and English Language
  • IT literate - Using MS Office
  • Proven record of working to clearly defined KPIs
  • Knowledge and understanding of hazards associated with chemical functional groups and relevant laws
  • Able to interpret a safety data sheet
  • Knowledge and understanding of COSHH symbols and associated road transport diamonds
  • Knowledge and understanding of requirements of working within a time-critical hazardous waste environment
  • Analytical with ability to measure and monitor data
  • Ability to deal with conflict and organized with ability to simplify complex issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills at all levels
  • Full, clean UK valid driving license
  • Natural problem solver who always considers health and safety
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Solid pragmatic approach to delivering to tight deadlines and targets
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and on own initiative
  • Ability to communicate with conviction, plan with precision, and play well with others
