The Role: Planning Development Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Planning Development Manager to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the development of a portfolio of large-scale grid-connected solar and energy storage projects.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for projects, coordinating input from property, planning, grid, technical, legal, and commercial teams.
  • Ensure development projects are managed effectively against clearly defined project timelines and milestones.
  • Lead on the planning aspects of projects, coordinating external consultants and managing community engagement activities.
  • Identify and engage all key stakeholders in a project, developing and implementing a comprehensive stakeholder management plan.
  • Prepare weekly status updates on projects, reporting progress against the plan and detailing risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Manage project budgets meticulously, ensuring project spend aligns with forecasts and providing regular reports on progress and variations.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to a graduate planner, focusing on site finding and evaluation.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Possesses proven post-qualification experience with a degree in a planning-related discipline and eligibility for membership of an accredited professional institute (MRTPI or equivalent).
  • Demonstrates the ability to liaise effectively with both internal and external teams, fostering productive relationships to ensure projects receive all necessary approvals.
  • Has experience managing renewable energy projects throughout the entire development cycle, understanding the key challenges and navigating them to achieve viable solutions.
  • Is adept at identifying potential obstacles to project delivery and influencing key decision-makers to ensure timely completion.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of renewable energy project development principles.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage resources effectively to deliver key outcomes.
  • Holds a full UK driving license and is willing to travel frequently for site visits and meetings.
