Job Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced paediatric physiotherapist to fill this Highly Specialist role. The successful candidate will work predominantly with children who have neurological and oncology conditions, both in and outpatients, with a particular focus on children with neuromuscular conditions, including Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work closely with other therapists in the Children's Hospital and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
  • Support band 5 and band 6 physiotherapists with teaching and training, as well as managing your own complex caseload.
  • Collaborate with the Neuro Physiotherapy Clinical Specialist and Band 7 peers within the neurosciences team in the daily line management and coordination of the service.
  • Work flexibly across seven days to support weekends, Bank Holidays, and out-of-hours respiratory rosters.

Requirements
  • Able to work flexibly across Trust and on weekend rota.
  • Maintain competence in respiratory care where appropriate.
  • Able to handle and move complex patients safely and in a way which promotes rehabilitation if applicable.
  • Able to use and/or manoeuvre a range of medical devices, including handling/assistive and anthropometric equipment if applicable.
  • Able to plan the delivery of a service for a specialist area where there is variable capacity and fluctuating demand.
  • Able to organise and plan the activity of staff and self.
  • Analyse information from clinical assessments and make judgements about appropriate interventions for highly complex patients.
  • Able to make decisions about the treatment needs of highly complex patients.
  • Lead on the development of improvements in service delivery and clinical practice using evidence-based practice to recommend changes.
  • Able to discuss treatment options and recommend best course of intervention to patients and carers using negotiating, persuasive, motivational, and reassurance skills.
  • Communicate complex patient-related information effectively to ensure collaborative working with MDT colleagues across health & social care sectors.
  • Wide-ranging and extensive experience of working within specialist area.
  • Knowledge of current best practice within a clinical specialty.
  • Diploma or degree in relevant qualification.
  • Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registration.
  • Recognised post-graduate training relevant to specialty preferably including MSc or completed modules.
