Safeguarding Specialist Midwife

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Midwife with safeguarding experience related to children and adults to work within the maternity safeguarding team at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will support all activities to ensure the organisation meets its safeguarding responsibilities in regard to pregnant women/birthing people, new mothers and unborn and new-born babies within the care of the acute and community services.
The post holder will support the Named Midwife for Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Families to ensure the organisation meets its safeguarding responsibilities throughout the childbirth continuum.
The post holder will ensure the pregnant persons and their families with safeguarding issues receive appropriate care, support, and guidance to ensure the best outcomes for their unborn/new-born babies.
Main Responsibilities- Work across acute and community maternity services including the High Peak and within a multi-agency arena, providing advice and support to Trust staff on safeguarding issues.
- Under the direction of the Named Midwife for Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Families, participate in safeguarding supervision and the training of staff on safeguarding issues using a 'Think Family' approach inclusive of safeguarding children, adults and unborn babies.
- Attend strategy discussions, discharge planning meetings and child protection conferences when required as well as supporting the wider midwifery teams with plans based on the outcomes of these meetings.
- Assess the full range of care and support needs - develops, implements and evaluates programmes of care in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period for women with complex safeguarding needs and/or identified vulnerabilities.
- Support the Named Midwife for Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Families in investigations and responses to any complaints or investigations that may have a safeguarding element.

Requirements- Experience with working with safeguarding in midwifery
- Experience with undertaking Early Help Assessments
- Experience with writing safeguarding reports
- Undertaking supervision
- Good communication skills
- Has engaged in sensitive conversations
- Has led multi-agency meetings
