About the Role

The Department of Māori / Indigenous Health Innovation (MIHI) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced academic to join our team as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Education. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the teaching and delivery of the Hauora Māori component of the MB ChB programme in years 4 to 6 of the Advanced Learning in Medicine (ALM) programme at the University of Otago, Christchurch.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Māori health and education, with experience in teaching and delivering undergraduate medical and nursing education. They will also have a proven track record of working with Māori communities and an advanced understanding of Hauora Māori.

The role involves contributing to scholarship and professional activities, as well as contributing to research relevant to Māori Health Advancement. The successful candidate will also contribute to university planning and / or governance and serve the relevant profession and / or academic discipline and contribute to the wider community.

The position is based in Ōtautahi / Christchurch, and it is expected that academic staff will be routinely at work on campus, so they are available to assist students and for students to see the University as a place of active scholarship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and deliver the Hauora Māori component of the MB ChB programme in years 4 to 6 of the Advanced Learning in Medicine (ALM) programme at the University of Otago, Christchurch.
  • Contribute to scholarship and professional activities, including research relevant to Māori Health Advancement.
  • Contribute to university planning and / or governance and serve the relevant profession and / or academic discipline and contribute to the wider community.
  • Work collaboratively with Māori communities and other stakeholders to advance Māori health and education.
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant field, or a Master's degree with significant experience in Māori health and education.
  • Experience in teaching and delivering undergraduate medical and nursing education.
  • Proven track record of working with Māori communities and an advanced understanding of Hauora Māori.
  • Ability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds and at all levels of the institution.
