Bridgwater, Somerset, United Kingdom NHS Full time

The Advice and Support in Custody and Courts (ASCC) team at Somerset Partnership provides a vital service to individuals appearing in Somerset's criminal courts and those detained in police custody. As an NHS Band 6 Community Mental Health Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in completing mental health and vulnerability assessments, identifying unmet needs, and referring individuals to relevant health and social care services.

Main Duties

You will be responsible for undertaking initial assessments in police custody and court settings, providing rapid and high-quality written screening reports, and offering professional guidance and advice to colleagues within the criminal justice system. You will also liaise with community services, implement and review referral pathways with the police, and compile and present health and social circumstances reports.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team that is part of NHS England's national liaison and diversion programme. As an NHS Band 6 Community Mental Health Practitioner, you will have the chance to work autonomously, completing rapid assessments and screening reports, while also receiving support from senior practitioners and colleagues. You will be part of a rota covering Bridgwater police custody and may also be required to provide cover to Taunton, Yeovil, and North Somerset Magistrates' Court.

Person Specification
  • RMN/Degree/Diploma in Nursing, CQSW/Degree/Diploma in Social Work, Degree in Occupational Therapy, and current relevant professional registration.
  • Significant experience and knowledge of working with people with mental health problems, assessing risk, and developing risk management plans.
  • Experience of working in a community mental health setting and holding a valid driving licence with access to a vehicle.

This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check. As an NHS employee, you will be eligible for a range of benefits, including flexible working, the NHS pension scheme, and career development opportunities. Somerset offers a unique blend of rural and urban living, with easy access to Bristol, Bath, and Exeter, making it an ideal location for those seeking a work-life balance.
