Job Summary

HM Treasury invites applications for an independent member to join the Financial Reporting Advisory Board (FRAB), a statutory body that provides key advice to HM Treasury and Parliament on financial reporting policy in the public sector.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to the overall success and effective operation of the FRAB by:

  • Participating in Board deliberations on financial reporting practice and principle, and providing advice to HM Treasury and Parliament.
  • Attending regular meetings (typically 3 per year) and working collaboratively with other members to ensure consistency in Board performance.
  • Contributing to discussions and papers, and providing objective opinions on accounting issues.
  • Supporting the delivery of strategic priorities and contributing to long-term strategies.
  • Ensuring that opinions are clearly expressed, supported by reasoned analysis.
  • Adhering to the Board membership Code of Conduct and declaring any personal conflicts of interest.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant accounting or public financial management experience at a senior executive level.
  • Effective leadership experience in an advisory or senior management role, with the ability to participate in policy formation.
  • Ability to challenge constructively and influence decision-making within a board setting.
  • Strong International Financial Reporting Standards knowledge and application.
Desirable Qualities

  • Understanding of the UK public spending and reporting environment.
