About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Acute Medicine Consultant to join our team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. As a key member of our Acute Medicine Department, you will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and delivering high-quality patient care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership within the Acute Medical Department and contribute to the development of medical services.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors, physicians associates, and advanced clinical practitioners to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Work collaboratively with our dynamic acute medicine team to deliver holistic medical care and improve patient outcomes.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new medical models and services, including virtual wards and hot clinics.
  • Contribute to the Medical Take on-call rota and provide weekend cover as required.
Requirements
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Acute Internal Medicine or General Internal Medicine via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), MRCP (UJ), or an equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems during the acute unselected medical take.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients as an independent practitioner.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • MD, PhD, or equivalent.
  • Specialty Certificate Examination in Acute Internal Medicine.
  • Experience of NHS.
  • Accreditation in point of care ultrasound in diagnosis in acute medicine patients.
  • Higher training medicine specialty training scheme.
Teaching and Education
  • Ability to teach clinical and practical skills.
  • Ability to supervise, appraise, coach, and mentor doctors in training.
