Position Overview
We are seeking applications for substantive positions that have been established due to the retirement of existing staff and the reallocation of responsibilities. This initiative aims to enhance the senior medical workforce, fostering a more robust and capable team dedicated to delivering exceptional healthcare services. The successful candidates will collaborate with a team of 14 consultant peers, 3 specialty doctors, and 2 associate specialists to form a comprehensive senior pediatric medical team. Preference will be given to those with additional sub-specialty expertise, particularly in areas such as pediatric cardiology, diabetes and endocrinology, respiratory medicine, eating disorders, and adolescent health.
Key Responsibilities
Each position encompasses 8 programmed activities, which will be allocated between the Acute Pediatric service and the provision of specialized services. The post holder will be expected to engage in the Acute Pediatric service, which includes serving as the admitting consultant for acute ward services, managing acute shifts in the Children's Assessment Unit, conducting safeguarding medical assessments, and participating in General Pediatric outpatient services. There will also be opportunities to lead specialized clinics and collaborate within the multidisciplinary team to provide both inpatient and community support for young patients.
About Our Organization
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the education of undergraduate students from the Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine, as well as postgraduate trainees in clinical settings. Additionally, involvement in audit and governance activities will be required.
Job Duties
The role includes an on-call commitment of 1 in 18, and the candidate will be required to participate in evening duties and safeguarding responsibilities flexibly. For comprehensive details regarding these positions, please refer to the attached Job Plan.

Experience Requirements
Essential Experience
- Expertise in managing pediatric patients with general health issues, including safeguarding concerns
- Completion of a recognized higher training program in Pediatrics with specialization in General Pediatrics
- APLS or equivalent certification
- Experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students
Desirable Experience
- Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors
- Completion of SPIN module or equivalent competencies in a pediatric subspecialty
- Formal qualification in medical education
- Experience in organizing educational programs or specific teaching events
