Job Title: 3rd Line Support Engineer

Company Overview:

Our client, a highly regarded solicitors' firm in Colchester, is seeking a dedicated and experienced 3rd Line Support Engineer to provide comprehensive IT support and guidance. This is a critical, onsite role within a busy legal environment where efficiency, reliability, and security are paramount.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Day-to-Day IT Support: Provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support to users across the business, troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues within the firm.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversee the ongoing health, maintenance, and administration of the firm's IT infrastructure, ensuring uptime, reliability, and efficiency.
  • System Upgrades & Projects: Lead and participate in IT projects, including software updates, hardware installations, and systems migrations.
  • Vendor Management: Liaise with third-party vendors and service providers, ensuring smooth delivery of IT services and managing hardware/software purchases.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Manage backup processes and ensure that disaster recovery plans are in place and tested regularly.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all IT processes and systems comply with relevant data protection regulations (such as GDPR) and legal sector requirements.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong experience in supporting Microsoft Office 365, Windows 10, Active Directory, Exchange, and network troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, etc.).
  • Experience in a Legal Environment (preferred): Familiarity with legal-specific applications such as case management systems, document management solutions, and time recording software would be advantageous.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Proven experience in a senior support role, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues promptly and effectively.
  • Project Management: Experience leading IT projects, from system upgrades to the deployment of new technologies.
  • Security Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in cybersecurity, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption, and remote access security.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with legal professionals, IT staff, and external providers.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred): A degree in a relevant field would be advantageous.
  • Professional certifications: Professional certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, or equivalent (desirable).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT support roles: A minimum of 5 years of experience in IT support roles, with at least 2 years in a senior capacity.
