Clinical Support Worker Radiotherapy Specialist

The post-holder will provide high-quality clinical, administrative, and clerical support within the Radiotherapy department. They will be responsible for delegated tasks, ensuring patient care, information, and support are provided to all patients and their carers.
Main DutiesCommunication Skills- Ensure accurate recording of treatment and planning data, scheduling patient appointments, greeting, and escorting patients, and assisting with appointment queries.
- Support radiotherapy staff in caring for patients' physical, clinical, and emotional needs, including post-operative care, changing dressings, tracheostomy support, and working with patients with communication difficulties.
- Provide routine information to patients and carers using tact, empathy, and reassurance skills.
- Liaise between Christie radiotherapy centres, host sites, and community services as needed.
- Use knowledge of integrated clinical information systems for case note tracking and data collation.
- Input data and complete radiotherapy tasks.
- Retrieve medical documents for clinical information, including those from other Trusts.
- Comply with policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and departmental protocols.
- Produce suitable immobilisation equipment.
- Provide clinical support for radiotherapy anaesthetic and recovery areas.
- Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure adequate information and support are available to patients.
- Produce departmental statistics using appropriate systems, ensuring submission within given deadlines.
- Use analytical skills to make judgments on patient situations, deciding when issues need to be escalated and support provided.
- Cover the reception desk as needed, answering internal or external telephone calls.
- Maintain accurate patient details in all Christie patient systems, following correct procedures for recording information to ensure it is up-to-date for future reference and complies with the data protection act.
- Triage and manage booking forms, booking, and scheduling of radiotherapy planning and treatment across all sites.
- Book patient transport where applicable and deal with transport queries.
- Book and schedule physiotherapy and complementary therapy and support services on site.
- Produce daily clinic lists from patient management systems to cover all clinics held in radiotherapy areas.
- Use patient management systems to ensure all radiotherapy appointments are recorded on Medway.
- Locate case notes for patients attending for radiotherapy clinics, out-patient clinics, or treatment using the Medway system where appropriate.
- Responsible for stock control in areas of work.
- Responsible for the production and processing of all relevant completion letters following a patient's treatment.
- Creation of follow-up letters on patient treatment completion.
- Pre-treatment imaging support.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures.
- Provide continuity of support during the absence of other clinical support workers and booking team members.
- Clinical and clerical support for all clinics in the Christie network, including AHP services.
- Organise and provide relevant medical equipment used in applicable clinics, including sterilisation.
- Undertake a range of different delegated duties across the Radiotherapy Department as allocated by the relevant line manager. Record patient information and data and contribute to the implementation of patients' clinical care packages.
- Utilise own initiative but work within defined SOPs, procedures, and policies. When in doubt, raise issues with more senior members of staff for guidance.
- Patient transfer.
- Manual handling tasks as required.
- Working hours must be flexible to the needs of the service, which may include working weekends.
- Expected to participate in all shift patterns.
- Attend all relevant mandatory training courses.
- Maintain own personal development.
- Participate in relevant training, meetings, and work at The Christie Withington site and other satellites within the network as required.
- Assist in the training and/or orientation of clinical support workers and any other students.
- Complete the Christie Care Certificate as mandated by the Trust.
- Required to demonstrate tasks and duties to new and less experienced members of the team.
