Clinical Support Worker Radiotherapy Specialist

Job Summary
The post-holder will provide high-quality clinical, administrative, and clerical support within the Radiotherapy department. They will be responsible for delegated tasks, ensuring appropriate care, information, and support are given to patients and their carers.
The provision of comprehensive support for treatment machines, pre-treatment imaging, mould room, and out-patient clinics held within The Christie network will be managed efficiently to achieve a high standard of patient care.
The post-holder will provide reception cover, collate, input, and analyze relevant patient data while problem-solving and communicating effectively. They will work under the direction of the medical team to undertake routine and specifically identified tasks once training and competencies have been completed.
Main Duties of the Job
Communication Skills
- Ensuring accurate recording of treatment and planning data, organizing and scheduling patient appointments, greeting and escorting patients, and assisting patients with appointment queries.

- Assisting and supporting radiotherapy staff to support the patients' physical, clinical, and emotional needs while attending.
- Providing and receiving routine information using tact, empathetic, and reassuring skills towards patients and carers.
Knowledge, Training, and Experience
- Using knowledge of integrated clinical information systems for case note tracking and collating data for referrals.
- Data input and radiotherapy completion tasks.
- Where applicable, providing retrieval of medical documents for clinical information, including those from other Trusts.
- Complying with policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and departmental protocols.
Personal Skills
- Liaising with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that adequate information and support are available to patients.
- Producing departmental statistics using appropriate systems, ensuring submission within given deadlines.
- Using analytical skills to make judgments on patient situations, such as deciding when issues need to be escalated and support provided.
Planning and Organisation
- Triage and management of booking forms, booking and scheduling of radiotherapy planning and treatment across all sites.
- Booking and scheduling of physiotherapy and complimentary therapy and support services on site.
- Producing daily Clinic lists from patient management systems to cover all clinics held in radiotherapy areas.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for stock control in areas of work.
- Responsible for the production and processing of all relevant completion letters following a patient's treatment.
- Creation of Follow-up letters on patients' treatment completion.
Patient Care
- Undertaking a range of different delegated duties across the Radiotherapy Department as allocated by the relevant line manager.
Effort
- Patient transfer.
- Manual handling tasks as required.
About Us
The Christie at Oldham opened in 2010 and is one of three satellites delivering radiotherapy across the network.
The support team works closely with the radiographers and medical team, providing administration, practical, and clinical support for patients.
Working hours must be flexible to fit the needs of the service, which may include evening work, some weekend working, and does include working bank holidays. Individuals will be expected to participate in all shift patterns.
Patient care is important to us, and training will be given for the skills required. Completion of the Care Certificate is mandated in this post.
