Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highways Driver Chargehand to join our established Highways team at Totally Local Company. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering minor civil engineering projects to predetermined plans, specifications, timescales, and budget within the Highways department.
Key Responsibilities- Safely Carry Out Repairs and Improvements: You will safely carry out repairs and improvements to a variety of built environment infrastructure such as modular paving, kerb installation, bituminous macadam laying, concreting, pipe laying, hard and soft landscaping including drainage repair, excavation, and shoring.
- Apply Safe Methods of Working: You will apply safe methods of working through the use of PPE, correct manual handling, use of small plant and equipment such as excavators, roller/breaker, compaction equipment, dumpers, motorised circular saws, and other highways-related equipment.
- Adhere to Health and Safety Regulations: You will adhere to the Health & Safety at Work Act, Road Traffic Act, and follow procedures relating to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
- Drive Heavy Goods Vehicles: You will drive a range of vehicles with a gross weight of up to and including 32 tonnes Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) including tractors, tippers, HIAB crane, tail lift, platform, pick-ups, and transit vans.
- Plan Workload Objectives: You will plan workload objectives and allocate work to the team, monitoring standard and performance in line with business objectives.
- Participate in Emergency Call-outs: You will participate in highways emergency call-out and winter services during and out of hours, ensuring the roads of Stockport are kept free of ice and snow in accordance with Stockport Council winter service policy and emergency response.
- Experience in Civil Engineering Projects: You will have experience working on civil engineering projects with competency in a range of construction activities.
- Working Knowledge of Design Drawings: You will have working knowledge and application of design drawings, specifications, and civil engineering techniques.
- Health and Safety Knowledge: You will be conversant in all Health and Safety in an operational environment including COSHH and HAVS.
- Qualifications: You will hold an NVQ Level 2 or above in Construction Operations.
- Driving License: You will hold a current Class C licence, including Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and able to conduct pre-use checks, defect reporting/rectification, and gross vehicle weight limits (overloading).
- Flexibility: You will work flexibly and in the interest of the business and be amenable to business needs.
