Job Overview

The Port Health Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective implementation of port health regulations, focusing on food safety, environmental health, and compliance with relevant laws and guidelines. This position requires an individual with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and experience in supervision and enforcement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement biosecurity controls for Products of Non-Animal Origin (NAOs), fish and fishery products, and other regulated items.
  • Enforce legislation aimed at preventing the importation of unfit, unsound, unwholesome, and non-compliant consignments of food or feed.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective systems of service delivery for the Port Health Service.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, including berth operators, importers, exporters, and government agencies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Environmental Health approved by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
  • Registration with the EHO Registration Board (EHORB) as a practicing Environmental Health Officer in the UK.
  • A Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
  • Post-graduate qualification in a functional area of Port Health work, such as Food Safety.

Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
