Job Title: Clinical Research Doctor/Physician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Research Doctor/Physician to join our team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. This is a 12-month fixed-term post for a Trust Doctor (Senior Clinical Fellow) working within the Pancreas and General Surgery Department based at St James's University Hospital.

Job Summary

This role is intended to provide an experience for the successful candidate within pancreatic surgery. The post holder will provide clinical care for acute, elective, and outpatients under the supervision of the pancreas consultants and will be part of the general surgical out-of-hours specialty registrar rota providing emergency care for acute surgical admissions and referrals.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operating Theatres: 3 full-day sessions including some day-case surgeries
  2. Attendance in weekly Specialty MDT meeting
  3. Ward-based care
  4. Participate in Audit/Teaching/Research
  5. Acute General on call

The post holder will be expected to conduct outpatient clinics independently, with support from a consultant, and support theatre sessions including day-case surgery. The Trust, as a Teaching hospital, recognises the importance of personal development, and all medical staff are expected to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.

Person Specification
  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date.
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date.
Eligibility, Fitness to Practice, and Language Skills
  • Hospital at night team working / experience.
  • Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation.
  • Capacity to use logical/lateral thinking to solve problems/make decisions, indicating an analytical/scientific approach.
  • Able to work in multi-professional teams & supervise junior medical staff.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the principles of research, evidence of relevant academic and research achievements.
  • Evidence of general surgical training with relevant surgical experience (as evidence within log book).
  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
Experience
  • Experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences.
  • Evidence of achievement of competencies in medicine or Surgery training at ST7/8 level (as defined by the curricula relating to Core Medical training or Core Surgical Training).
  • Experience in HPB Surgery.
Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
