Clinical Fellow in Transfer Medicine for Barts Health NHS Trust

About the Role: We are pleased to introduce the Adult Critical Care Emergency Support Service (ACCESS) Fellowship, a unique opportunity that combines clinical operational delivery and personal and professional development. This 6-12 month post is designed to provide a balanced and enriching experience for candidates seeking to advance their career in the field of transfer medicine.
Main Duties: As a Transfer Doctor, you will be responsible for championing the safe and efficient transfer of critically unwell patients across hospitals. You will play a pivotal role in streamlining practices, education, transfer operations, and governance within a single service, with a unified vision of ensuring equitable access to specialist care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS) and other critical care networks to provide a transfer service for critically ill patients throughout London 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the secure, reliable, compassionate, and proficient transfer of critically ill patients.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve transfer practices and patient care.
- Participate in education and training programs to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
- Contribute to research and development projects to improve transfer medicine practices.
Person Specification:
- GMC Registration.
- Primary FRCA/MRCP or equivalent.
- Completed stage 1 training in anaesthetics/ICM (or equivalent).
- Completed a transfer course and had clinical experience of inter-hospital transfers.
- ALS or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- Full FRCA / FICM.
- Experience in cardiothoracic critical care.
- APLS/EPLS (instructor status).
- FICE/FUSIC.
- ATLS or equivalent (instructor status ideal).
- PHEC/MIMMS/MIMMS.
- Diploma in Retrieval and Transfer Medicine.
- Diploma in Immediate Medical care.
Research and Development:
- Understanding and knowledge of research and ability to interpret research papers.
- Publications in critical care journals or in areas of special interest.
Management and Leadership:
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work under pressure and to adapt to changing clinical environments.
- Ability to problem solve and escalate appropriately.
- Experience in team leading.
