About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Naval Architect to join our Engineering team at the RNLI. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the design, stability, and safety of all RNLI floating assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Naval Architecture team, guiding and motivating them to achieve exceptional results.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, and development of team members to build a skilled and resilient team.
  • Act as the primary Design Authority for Naval Architecture, ensuring adherence to design standards throughout an asset's life cycle.
  • Manage technical documentation and configuration control to support asset development and maintenance.
  • Ensure designs comply with EAM Processes and Standards.
  • Oversee team budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely, high-quality project delivery.
  • Provide expert technical support to coastal staff and volunteers.
  • Work with boatyards, contractors, and suppliers to ensure project success.
  • Conduct investigations, trials, and analysis to resolve technical issues.
  • Engage with industry and academia to enhance engineering practices.
  • Develop and implement the engineering strategy for Naval Architecture.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Encourage innovation and the adoption of new technologies and ideas.
About You

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual with a passion for engineering and a commitment to saving lives at sea. To be considered, you should have:

  • RINA-accredited Naval Architecture qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience as a Senior or Principal Naval Architect.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Chartered or Fellow engineer registration with the Engineering Council.
  • Experience in marine design and engineering environments.
