Job Summary:
The Welsh Government is seeking a highly skilled Strategic Policy Lead to join its Planning Policy Team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a senior professional to drive policy development across a range of specialist topics related to placemaking.

About the Role:
This is a key position within the Planning Policy Team, responsible for developing expertise and driving policy across various areas, including climate change adaptation & mitigation, economic development, energy, green infrastructure & biodiversity, historic environment, housing, leisure & recreation, mineral & waste, noise & soundscape, retailing, and transport. The postholder will work closely with the team to develop new and revise existing policy, as well as manage a wide range of initiatives across government and support other work within the Planning Directorate.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead policy initiatives across specialist topics related to placemaking
- Drive evidence-based policy development and implementation
- Manage a wide range of initiatives across government and support other work within the Planning Directorate
- Collaborate with the team to develop new and revise existing policy

Requirements:
- Membership or eligibility to join the RTPI
- Strong leadership skills and ability to make effective decisions
- Excellent working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
- Awareness of complex environmental, social, and economic issues associated with planning policy development
- Understanding of the development plan system in Wales
