About the Role

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Biomedical Support Worker in the Cellular Pathology Department.

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, completing tasks at short notice and to tight deadlines.

Previous laboratory experience, attention to detail, organisational qualities, personal flexibility and excellent communication skills are required.

The department operates a 6 day week and includes standard day shift patterns and extended day shift patterns.

Main Responsibilities

The job holder will work as a member of the departmental team, collecting, receiving and assisting in the processing of clinical diagnostic specimens for testing.

They will perform a range of routine and more complex laboratory investigations, some of which may be under the supervision of more experienced scientific and technical staff.

The job holder will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute towards the provision of an accurate and timely service for patients.

They will be expected to apply professional judgements and specialist skills to technically complex and sometimes difficult situations.

The job holder will work independently when and as directed by supervisors, and will communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and users of the service.

About Us

The department provides Histopathology, Andrology, Immunohistochemistry, Muscle, Molecular, Non Gynae Cytology services for Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and surrounding primary care centres.

Key Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in a laboratory, and will possess basic computer skills and knowledge of conventional IT software.

They will also have a level /NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification, and will be able to work in a team or independently.

The job holder will be physically able to assist in the movement of moderate loads, and will have a flexible approach to work.

They will also have good communication and interpersonal skills, and will be able to demonstrate a friendly and approachable attitude.
