Job Title:

English Teacher (Maternity Cover)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate English Teacher for a maternity cover role at a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Skelmersdale. The successful candidate will provide a supportive and engaging learning environment for students who have struggled in mainstream education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons to small groups of students
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and support staff to meet the individual needs of students
  • Implement behaviour management strategies in line with the PRU's policies
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting lessons accordingly
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level (Primary-trained teachers with upper KS2 experience will also be considered)
  • Ability to build rapport with students and staff
  • Experience working with children with additional needs or in a PRU setting (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong classroom management skills and a patient, empathetic approach

You must be willing to attend a registration interview. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay.

This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Spencer Clarke Group work with a variety of schools covering a wide geographical area. We deal with teaching placements at Primary, Secondary, Special Education needs and college level as well as support staff positions also within these.
