Priory Hospital Newbury is a mental health hospital rated as outstanding by CQC. It has 30 beds, including male recovery and rehabilitation wards, and mixed acute wards.

The site is situated on the southern outskirts of Newbury, with excellent public transport links to Reading, Basingstoke, and London, which can be reached in just 50 minutes by train.

As a Night Deputy Ward Manager at Priory Hospital Newbury, you will be part of a diverse multidisciplinary team (MDT) that includes psychologists, creative therapists, consultant psychiatrists, and physical healthcare providers.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Taking a lead role in managing referrals and admissions during night shifts.
  2. Assisting ward managers in managing the ward and resources effectively, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and skill mix.
  3. Providing clinical supervision to night nursing staff.
  4. Serving as a highly visible role model, mentor, and leader, promoting learning, development, inquiry, and professionalism.
  5. Ensuring compliance with relevant policies and statutory requirements.
  6. Maintaining high standards of patient care.
  7. Developing clear current care plans that reflect individualized needs and engage family members and carers as necessary.
  8. Implementing safe and effective ward procedures and processes.
  9. Applying legislative frameworks regarding the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberties.
  10. Leading Medicines Management in their Clinical Area/Ward.
  11. Fostering positive and efficient MDT working.

We are seeking a confident and reliable professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to handle demanding situations. You will be registered with the Nursing Midwifery Council as a mental health nurse, with at least 18 months to 2 years of experience post-registration, and be computer literate with quality compliance monitoring experience.
