Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Clinical Physiologist to join our small but experienced team delivering a high-quality Neurophysiology service to all services within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

Main Duties

Perform routine EEG/sleep EEG recordings on adults and children as outpatients both onsite and offsite and inpatients onsite while awake, adapting the technique where necessary to accommodate the clinical state and degree of co-operation of the patient.

Use telemetry (video) equipment during the EEG recordings having obtained written consent.

Advise patients before leaving the department of any necessary precautions around photo sensitivity and sedation.

Transport portable equipment from the department to the ward to perform EEG recordings at the bedside, adapting the technique where necessary to accommodate the clinical state and degree of co-operation of the patient.

Utilise digital EEG software to produce a detailed factual report on EEG recordings for viewing by the Consultant Neurophysiologist.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc Hons Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology or equivalent)
  • Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology EPTA/ANS Board Examination Part I or working towards
  • Neurophysiology (EPTA/ANS) Board Examination Part II or working towards

Desirable

  • Post-Graduate Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Member of Professional Organisation

Experience

Essential

  • Must be able to show that they can perform the more routine investigations offered by the service. This will include reviewing and preparing factual reports
  • Able to work autonomously in respect of standard clinical work and under supervision for more complex procedures
  • Able to demonstrate underpinning knowledge of more specialist skills and some experience of observing these

Desirable

  • Evidence of experience of supervising students or trainees

Skills

Essential

  • Provide evidence of practical skills needed to record routine neurophysiology tests. Including electrode application of both EEG and surface EMG electrodes
  • Provide evidence of ability to work in challenging environments
  • Demonstrate ability to work with patients with challenging or confrontational behaviour
  • Demonstrate ability to organise and prioritise their own work
