Job Title: Principal Independent Nuclear Safety Assessor

The Role

As a Principal Independent Nuclear Safety Assessor, you'll be responsible for conducting independent peer reviews of safety documents and policy, methodology, strategy, and guidance documents. You'll examine the Site Safety Justification, including Plant Safety Cases, Modifications, Forward Action Plans, and Concessions, against the Company's safety principles, criteria, and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent peer reviews of safety documents and policy, methodology, strategy, and guidance documents.
  • Examine the Site Safety Justification, including Plant Safety Cases, Modifications, Forward Action Plans, and Concessions, against the Company's safety principles, criteria, and standards.
  • Present findings of peer reviews to the members of the Nuclear Safety Committee.
  • Manage the conduct of consultants sub-contracted for the execution of external peer reviews as lead assessor.
  • Assist in formulating IPR strategy and policy to address emergent issues.
  • Prepare peer review reports to the required standards and timescales.

Requirements

  • General experience of safety-related engineering in a high-hazard industry.
  • Significant experience in the conduct of safety analysis, ideally in a through-life support environment, including Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), fault tree analysis, etc.
  • Experience in the development, management, and analysis of fault schedules and the derivation of safety functional requirements.
  • Experience of authoring safety case claims, arguments, and evidence to demonstrate how risks are being managed and controlled.
  • A thorough understanding of Naval Base infrastructure with a detailed understanding of submarine engineering would be advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Degree in an appropriate scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Chartered accreditation by an appropriate professional institution.
  • NUC Nuclear Plant Foundation Course Module 1 (or equivalent).
  • NUC Nuclear Fundamentals (Foundation) Course Module 2 (or equivalent).
  • NUC Introduction to Safety Engineering.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
