Safeguarding Care Coordinator Role

We are seeking a Safeguarding Care Coordinator to join our team at the NHS, working within the Kingstanding, Erdington and Nechells Primary Care Network. The PCN comprises 7 practices covering the areas of B7, B10, B23, and B44.

The purpose of this role is to provide safeguarding administrative support to practices within the PCN, working closely with Safeguarding Leads to achieve a consistent, safe, and effective team approach to safeguarding.

This role would suit a forward-thinking, innovative, and enthusiastic individual who is self-motivated and keen to work collaboratively across the primary care network. The successful candidate will have the ability to be organized, prioritize their workload effectively, and exercise sound judgment when faced with conflicting pressures.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are up-to-date and consistent with local and national guidelines.
  2. Support practices in developing and accessing appropriate role-based training for staff, and help run training events that encourage a multidisciplinary approach to safeguarding.
  3. Provide advice and training on recording and coding safeguarding relevant information within the electronic patient record, and support the preparation of timely, relevant, and proportionate safeguarding reports.
  4. Facilitate the implementation of templates and other decision support tools to support best practice in safeguarding, as recommended by the safeguarding team, and audit their use.
  5. Support practices in achieving CQC compliance with respect to the safeguarding of staff and patients.
  6. Take a key role in developing and running an effective practice safeguarding MDT for children and vulnerable adults, ensuring the practice has a vulnerable patient register that is kept up-to-date.
  7. Help foster effective relationships with local safeguarding partners, ensuring the timely sharing of relevant information, both verbally and in a structured report, when safeguarding concerns arise.
  8. Support practices in responding to statutory requests for information required by the local authority to carry out local child or adult safeguarding case reviews, and assist with section 42 enquiries. Disseminate learning and support the implementation of review recommendations.
  9. Promote the understanding of local safeguarding referral pathways, including Early Help and support services for victims of domestic abuse.
  10. The post-holder must always respect patient confidentiality and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role.
  11. This role may require some remote working from home.
  12. The post-holder is required to travel independently between practice sites (where applicable).

Person Specification
  • Experience of working in the health or care sector.
  • Experience of working within a multi-professional team.
  • Experience of safeguarding in any capacity.
  • A good understanding of General Practice, Primary Care Networks, and Safeguarding is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
  • Experience of direct patient contact/service users and Carers/Families.
  • Experience of coordinating meetings.
  • Experience of clinical terminology and coding.
  • Experience of working with SystemOne/Emis.
