Old Age Psychiatry Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dynamic Old Age Liaison Mental Health Service within Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide leadership and senior medical input to the service, based in the Department of Psychological Medicine within Hull Royal Infirmary.
The post holder will be responsible for providing consultant psychiatrist input to the Old Age Liaison Service, acting as Responsible Clinician for patients over 65 detained under the Mental Health Act, and providing cross-cover with consultant colleagues as required. They will also offer specialist advice, consultation, and training to Primary Care, Secondary Mental Health Care, and Acute Teaching Hospitals.
The ideal candidate will have full registration with the GMC, possess the MRCPsych UK or an equivalent postgraduate qualification, and be included on the GMC's Specialist Register or Specialty Trainees within 6 months of completing their CCT in Older Age Psychiatry. They will also have excellent interpersonal skills, be flexible, and have a vision for developing professional working relationships with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams.
The role will attract at least 2.5 SPAs as standard for a full-time post, and we are flexible in looking at enhancements to support other activities that support the wider ambitions of the Trust. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consultant psychiatrist input to the Old Age Liaison Service.
- Act as Responsible Clinician for patients over 65 detained under the Mental Health Act.
- Provide cross-cover with consultant colleagues as required.
- Offer specialist advice, consultation, and training to Primary Care, Secondary Mental Health Care, and Acute Teaching Hospitals.
- liaise with colleagues to provide patient-centred care, effective joint working, and risk management.
- Be actively involved in departmental and team governance, including audit.
- Participate in peer appraisal, CPD, appraisal, and job planning.
- Provide supervision and training to junior medical staff.
- Participate actively in undergraduate teaching.
- Participate in continuing professional development according to Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines.
