Didcot, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom UK Research and Innovation Full time

About the Role

The Detector Systems Group at UK Research and Innovation is seeking two students to contribute to the development of advanced particle detectors for neutron and muon beamlines. As an industrial placement student, you will work alongside experienced detector scientists to develop and evaluate the potential of new detector technologies.

About the Project

The Detector Systems Group is responsible for developing cutting-edge detector technologies to meet the challenging requirements posed by ISIS instruments. The successful students will investigate methods to produce detectors with the required performance and at an acceptable cost. This will involve designing and constructing prototype detectors, experimentally determining their characteristics, and optimising the design in our suite of laboratories.

About the Team

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists developing detector technologies for the ISIS suite of neutron and muon instruments. The team is responsible for delivering detectors for various ISIS instruments, including the ISIS pulsed neutron and muon source.

About the Benefits

As a student on this placement, you will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment, learn from experienced scientists, and contribute to the development of next-generation detector technologies. You will also have access to a range of personal development opportunities and a benefits package that includes 30 days' annual leave, 10.5 public and privilege days, and flexible working hours.

About the Requirements

To be eligible for this placement, you must be currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement. You must also have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement and be able to commence employment in summer.

About the Application Process

To apply for this placement, please submit a CV and covering letter that clearly outlines how you meet the criteria specified. Ensure that the job reference number is included in the filename description of each document uploaded.
