Music Department Leader

This exciting position has become available for an experienced and inspirational leader to join a highly-respected independent boys junior school in South West London.
As Assistant Director of Music, you will assist and support the Director of Music in the running of the Music Department within the junior school. Your key responsibilities will include assisting with planning and delivery of music lessons for year 3 – year 8 students, ensuring the music curriculum supports all students, regardless of musical ability or experience, and encouraging and nurturing students' enjoyment of practical musicianship, with a focus on ensemble work.
You will also accompany soloists and choirs at internal and external performances, play for school services and productions, lead a large ensemble and one choir, take the weekly hymn practice, and assist in the organisation of concerts, workshops and external educational experiences. Additionally, you will teach individual theory/aural lessons as required.
A degree in music and evidence of ongoing CPD (QTS desirable) are essential for this role, as well as knowledge and understanding of the music curriculum for primary and secondary education, experience in choral and orchestral conducting to a high standard, excellent keyboard skills and the ability to accompany instrumental soloists, and the ability to lead and conduct large ensembles and choirs. You must be an enthusiastic and approachable individual with a passion for music and education, a positive team player with strong organisational and time-management skills, and a commitment to the safety and welfare of all students and safeguarding policies.
