SEMH Teaching Assistant Role

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in a secondary school setting. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with SEMH students and possess strong organisational, communication and classroom management skills.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with their learning and manage their emotions and behaviour.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and adapting materials and strategies to meet the needs of SEMH students.
- Track and report on the progress of students, identifying areas for improvement and celebrating successes.
- Implement effective behaviour management strategies, promoting positive behaviour and addressing challenging behaviour appropriately.
- Offer emotional support and guidance to students, helping them to develop coping strategies and build resilience.
- Maintain regular communication with teachers, parents and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting students.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working alongside students with SEMH in a secondary school setting.
- Good organisational abilities, strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Understanding and compassionate approach to helping students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a secondary school environment.
- Updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service.
