About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design and Development Engineer to join our team in Worcestershire. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of mechanical solutions for complex defence systems, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality designs that meet regulatory and stakeholder requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the identification, analysis, and specification of design improvement projects and NPD projects, working with internal project teams and external design partners to solve complex problems.
  2. Manage design evolution, DFMEA, and optimise engineering solutions against requirements, within budget and timescales.
  3. Provide technical direction on business programmes to ensure delivery of mechanical engineering solutions, working in accordance with the mechanical and company design lifecycles.
  4. Formulate prototype designs and produce physical representations, providing key support to critical technical problem investigations and delivering effective solutions.
  5. Chair, support, and facilitate reviews and sign off release of mechanical designs in accordance with business and industry standards.
  6. Contribute towards continual improvement in product manufacturability through effective relationship building and design guidance / liaison with other engineering functions.
Requirements
  1. Engineering, Technical or Science Degree/MSc qualified, or equivalent, with demonstrable aerospace, defence, or related experience.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of engineering first principles applied to problem solving and concurrent engineering practices – structured, logical approach to investigate issues and solve problems in an effective cross-functional manner.
  3. Experience in mechanical engineering detailed design - first-hand experience of engineering design, analysis, tolerance studies (including GD&T) and technical documentation.
  4. Ability to lead teams and engage with the customer – demonstrating the ability of fulfilling customer and regulatory requirements (internal and external).
  5. Able to communicate complex technical aspects clearly and concisely.
  6. Appreciation of Systems Engineering approach and Project Management Fundamentals - process of delivering products and associated key milestones.
  7. Business awareness - understanding of fundamental business principles, drivers, and key customers with the ability to make effective trade-offs – cost, quality, and schedule.
