Electrical Technical Director Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Electrical Technical Director to join our Bicester office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the development and design of engineering project services, as well as assisting the Directors with business strategy and management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take a team management and leadership role in the development and design of engineering project services.
  • Assist the Directors with business strategy and management.
  • Carry out cost and profit diagnosis on projects, including feasibility studies and preparation of project fee proposals.
  • Work closely with clients and project teams to establish project requirements.
  • Review status advised by project personnel and external parties, and modify schedules or plans as required.
  • Prepare project reports for management, clients, or others.
  • Develop and specify applications of controls, instruments, and operating systems for all building engineering services purposes.
  • Survey, test, and report on existing electrical/mechanical installations.
  • Fiscally and commercially manage projects to ensure they return the target margin.
  • Lead and deliver monitoring of construction and installation on projects.
  • Liaise with existing clients to establish long-term relationships and future upcoming projects.
  • Specify activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing confirm to functional specifications and customer requirements.
  • Represent the company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams, and contractors' teams.
  • Carry out engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet required robust industry and legal standards.
  • Take a hands-on involvement in local office management in conjunction with other members of the senior management team.
  • Support clients in tender and procurement of MEP contractors and MEP equipment.
  • Lead on the coordination of engineering services, together with hands-on delivery of concept and details designs.
  • Ensure risk and performance monitoring analysis takes place through effective systems of internal control and delegation.
  • Mentor and develop younger members of the engineering team.
  • Take a holistic view in the selection and application of engineering concepts and solutions.
  • Support the delivery of projects in accordance with the expectations of the RED Project Delivery Process from a project management, financial management, QA/QC, and technical review perspective.

Requirements:

  • BSc/BEng in an appropriate engineering discipline or have sufficient equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience of specification design for a range of building types.
  • Experience of having managed projects abroad (desirable).
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Flexible and self-motivational approach to work.
  • Ability to use IT-based calculation and spreadsheet software.
  • Background in consulting or construction preferred.
