Volunteer Mentor

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Volunteer Mentor to join our team at Interventions Alliance. As a Volunteer Mentor, you will play a key supporting role to the participants we work with, predominantly men over the age of 18 years. Your primary responsibility will be to offer personalized, one-to-one support to help improve participants' lives, equipping them with the skills they need to progress in life and avoid being trapped in a cycle of criminality.
Our main focus is to grant access to education, believing that everyone should have the opportunity to build a better future, regardless of their past choices or the challenges they currently face. We encourage volunteers from all walks of life to reflect the community we serve, and we need your excellent communication skills and empathetic ability to create and maintain effective relationships with our participants.
In return for your dedication, knowledge, and commitment, we offer an amazing training programme to prepare you for the role. This comprises of both online and classroom training on various subjects, including safeguarding vulnerable adults, safeguarding children, mental health awareness, and substance misuse.
Location: East of England
Key Responsibilities- Attend appointments with the participants
- Literacy and numeracy support, including filling in forms
- Encourage engagement such as reminding participants of appointments
- Provide practical and emotional support to participants
- Encourage compliance with probation appointments and license conditions
- Support looking for a job, apprenticeship, or volunteer placement
- Demonstrate empathy, with the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with good listening skills
- Input and maintain computer-based information systems in an accurate and timely manner
- Exercise authority and reinforce boundaries in an appropriate manner
