Job Role

As a Volunteer Mentor at Seetec Business Technology Centre, you will play a key supporting role to participants in the South West region. Your primary responsibility will be to provide personalized, one-to-one support to help participants improve their lives, equipping them with the skills needed to progress and avoid being trapped in a cycle of criminality.

Our main focus is to grant access to accommodation and housing, empowering participants to build a better future. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to overcome their past choices and challenges.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have lived experience of the Criminal Justice System and be willing to give back to the community. You must also meet specific eligibility criteria, such as being 6 months substance abuse free and complying with your order.

As a Volunteer Mentor, you will be required to use your excellent communication skills and empathetic ability to create and maintain effective relationships with participants. You will also need to be a positive role model, inspiring and empowering participants to achieve their full potential.

In return for your dedication, knowledge, and commitment, we offer an amazing training program to prepare you for the role. This includes both online and classroom training on safeguarding vulnerable adults, safeguarding children, mental health awareness, substance misuse, and more.

Key Responsibilities

As a Volunteer Mentor, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Spending time with participants, assisting in agreed activities, such as providing practical and emotional support, encouraging engagement with appointments, and helping participants access resources.
  • Reporting any issues related to participant behavior and engaging in regular supervision sessions with the volunteer coordinator.
  • Completing feedback notes after each support session within 48 hours and reporting safeguarding concerns immediately.
  • Actively promoting Seetec's values within the work conducted with participants and maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Attending team meetings and participating in ongoing training activities.
Skills and Experience
  • Ability to listen effectively and communicate with others.
  • Ability to keep commitments and/or appointments.
  • Ability to use own initiative to identify and access relevant resources.
  • Share information appropriately within boundaries of confidentiality.
  • Capacity to understand and volunteer within necessary guidance to ensure both yourself and the participant understand your professional relationship.
  • Ability to demonstrate positive behavior providing a good role model to participants through pro-social modeling.
  • Be non-judgmental, open-minded, and self-aware.
  • Knowledge of basic IT skills.
  • Ability to encourage and allow people to make their own choices and decisions.
